දැය නැගූ පරපුරක ගායන, නර්තන දැක්ම – 2026

A Prestigious Cultural Celebration Showcasing the Dignity and Artistic Talents of the Older Community Successfully Held in Anuradhapura

Date: 16 October 2026 | Venue: “යොවුන් නිකේතන” Youth Centre Auditorium, Anuradhapura

Demonstrating that age is merely a number, that talent has no age limit, and that creativity never retires, the programme “දැය නැගූ පරපුරක ගායනා, නර්තන දැක්ම – 2026”, which showcased the inherent artistic talents, creativity and dignity of the older community in the North Central Province, was successfully held on 16 October 2026 at the Youth Centre Auditorium in Anuradhapura.

This special programme, organised by the Department of Social Services of the North Central Province, was held under the patronage of the Honourable Governor of the North Central Province and the Secretary of the Provincial Ministry of Health, with the participation of Secretaries to the North Central Provincial Council, Deputy Chief Secretaries and Heads of Departments.

Honouring Experience and Creating Opportunities for Talent

The primary objective of this programme was to provide opportunities for older persons, who have accumulated decades of life experience, knowledge and social values, to showcase their artistic talents, which continue to flourish, before society.

The programme provided a platform for older artists to demonstrate their inherent abilities and share their talents with others through singing, dancing and other creative performances.

This was not merely an artistic showcase, but a meaningful social initiative aimed at strengthening the self-esteem of older persons, promoting their participation in society, and passing on their knowledge and skills to future generations.

Bringing the Older Community of the Province Together on One Stage

The programme was enriched by the participation of 31 groups representing 29 Divisional Elders’ Committees and two residential homes for older persons in the North Central Province.

The event provided an important opportunity to further strengthen the network of elders’ organisations operating from the divisional to the provincial level, while fostering unity, cooperation and mutual relationships among older persons.

By bringing older artists from different areas together on a single stage to showcase their talents, the programme once again reaffirmed that older persons are an active and valuable part of society.

A Meaningful Step Towards Promoting the Rights of Older Persons

Protecting the rights of older persons, recognising their life experiences and talents, and expanding opportunities for them to live with dignity, remain active and participate meaningfully in society are important responsibilities within the field of social welfare.

Accordingly, the programme “දැය නැගූ පරපුරක ගායනා, නර්තන දැක්ම – 2026” represented an important step towards recognising older persons not merely as individuals requiring care and protection, but as a valuable social resource enriched with knowledge, experience and inherent talents.

Programmes of this nature provide older persons with opportunities to express their abilities, strengthen relationships between generations, and contribute towards building a more compassionate, empathetic and inclusive society.

The Commitment of the Department of Social Services

The Department of Social Services of the North Central Province works in collaboration with elders’ organisations to implement programmes aimed at promoting the welfare and rights of older persons, empowering them, and expanding their participation in society throughout the province.

The programme “දැය නැගූ පරපුරක ගායනා, නර්තන දැක්ම – 2026” was another significant step towards achieving these objectives. It provided a valuable opportunity to recognise the creativity and contributions of older persons and further strengthen their dignity.

The Department of Social Services of the North Central Province extends its heartfelt gratitude to all government officials, representatives of elders’ organisations, members of residential homes for older persons, and everyone who contributed to the successful organisation and implementation of this programme.

“Let us honour experience. Let us create opportunities for talent. Let us build a stronger society together with our older community.”
